-Emily and I both want to give a gigantic shoutout of thanks to Morgan Bauer, a true hero of our birthing experience. Not only was she our doula, she is one of our closest friends. She was there throughout the night, helping to guide Emily through contractions, massaging her shins and feet as I focused on her back and shoulders, talking me through the technical details of the various goings on, and just BEING there.
Though it all turned out well and mom and baby are both happy and healthy, Emily’s labor did not end up following the plan. Sometimes nature simply has different ideas. While it was all ultimately under control, there were some genuinely terrifying moments, made worse by my naturally anxious disposition. As it became clear that our plan would need to shift drastically and quickly, Morgan was steady and controlled, and did wonders to keep me grounded and informed as doctors were busily surrounding Emily with care. It was scary. But it was so, so much more manageable because of Morgan.
Guys, she even came back to the hospital to bring me ibuprofen the next morning, because I had a massive headache, and the hospital couldn’t legally give me ANYTHING since I wasn’t a patient.
Oh, and she did all while 38 weeks pregnant herself.
